Focus for This Month

Getting Physical and Eating Well

A major part of our mission is to increase the quality of life for dialysis patients WHILE they are on dialysis. This includes awareness of activities that will help you live better with less distress and discomfort - physically and mentally. In our most recent quarterly newsletter, we focused on enjoying the outdoors. June is National Great Outdoors Month.

I National Great Outdoors Month brings awareness to the opportunity for exploring the great outdoors. Whether hiking or biking the trails, kayaking or canoeing rivers and canyons or pitching a tent or camper in the forest, beach or campsite, National Great Outdoors Month is an excellent time to take advantage of the natural resources. We are surrounded by so much technology every day, as well as the noise and pace of life. This combination has left many of us drained of energy. Visiting and exploring the great outdoors will provide us with a much-needed release mentally and physically.

Another important contributor to improve your quality of life while on dialysis is eating the right foods. This is especially crucial if you are diabetic or hypertensive. June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month.

Celebrate National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables month this June with these colorful and tasty foods. Fruits and vegetables provide a variety of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fiber — while remaining naturally low in calories, fat and sodium. In addition, they lower your risk of developing certain chronic diseases — and help you maintain a healthy weight.
