CMS Proposes Medicare Coverage for Renal Denervation

One of the leading causes of kidney failure is high blood pressure. In fact it is the second leading cause. Even when on dialysis, high blood pressure can remain uncontrolled. Renal denervation is one of the newest treatments for this particular challenge.

Renal denervation is a minimally invasive procedure that involves using ultrasound or radiofrequency pulses to target certain points in a patient’s renal arteries. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Recor Medical’s Paradise Ultrasound Renal Denervation (RDN) system for uncontrolled hypertension and FDA clearance in November 2023.

By CMS approving Medicare coverage, many patients currently covered by Medicare, like dialysis patients, will be able to receive this treatment.
